Rowntree at the Manchester Conference

We provide here the paper presented by John Wilhelm Rowntree at the Manchester Conference in 1895, “Has Quakerism a Message for the World Today?” Many of the questions he was asking over a century ago are still important today, and we see many parallels between the end of the C19th and the end of the C20th.  The responses that Friends give to these questions will of course be different today - but will they be different in essence?  The issues Rowntree raises with such passion are issues that many Friends are discussing afresh, with just as much passion, a century later.
